Here are the basic guidelines followed in qualifying families who
obtain housing with Habitat:
1. Need
A) You will be
considered for a Habitat home if your present housing is not
adequate and you
are unable to
obtain adequate housing through other conventional means.
B) The percentage of your monthly income that you
currently spend on housing
C) You must have lived in Saline County for 6
months before applying
D) You and your family will be considered if your
total income is not over the range of 50 percent
of HUD's median
income for the area. For example:

2. Ability to Pay
A) Since you will be
actually buying your home from Habitat, you must demonstrate your
ability to
pay the
monthly mortgage payment. Payment will include mortgage,
Real Estate Taxes and
Insurance.
3. Willingness to Participate as a Partner with Habitat
A) When selected, you
become a "Partner Family" in the Habitat movement. As a
partner family, you
must complete
a minimum of 300 hours of sweat equity with an additional 150 hours
required of
each able
bodied person over the age of 18.
B) Friends and Family may contribute to the
total sweat equity hours required of a partner family, not
to exceed 35% of
the minimum 300 hours. |
